of air PRESSure

mood: gibbs

atmosphere weighs down on us,
heavily
surprising how we can bear--
no, tolerate,

don't you think?

the question lashes out,
and i find myself mute,
unable to answer--
must be the thick fog enveloping us,
ME

i don't struggle;
at least
not yet

We can tolerate the atmosphere because our bodies are exerting pressure outwards too.

But yeah, how'd we end up being able to tolerate the atmosphere? Its 760 mmHg pushing down on us 24/7.

It's been a long time since I've studied physics (or anything to do with science for that matter) but as I recall, wouldn't everything go very badly too without pressure? Take outer space for example. You can't survive without the suit because there's just no pressure on you and so the outward pressure of the gases in your body would push outwards because of some scientific law or the other (I can't remember which one... like I said, I've left science a while ago). You'd implode or explode or something like that.

Not to mention the lack of air but this is somewhat irrelevant to our discussion (?) about pressure.

So the pressure should be just enough to keep you hopping but not too much so that you're crushed. I'd say atmospheric pressure is just right. =D

I'll leave you with a quote from this manga called HanaKimi where the Dr. Umeda says that "Pain is proof you're alive." In the same way, pressure (and stress) in life are quite essential... I believe it's something that stands in the the way of complete boredom and meaninglessness in life. Life is a struggle, eh?
